About Play It Forward

Purchasing a piano or good quality keyboard can be a large investment in itself, let alone piano lessons. Most public schools do not provide piano education, so how do children from low income families learn to play? Piano is not only a skill of the arts, but also one of math and psychology. It develops the heart and mind in more ways than one. It takes character, confidence, discipline and imagination to be a pianist. 

​Play It Forward bridges the gap by providing free lessons, resources, and keyboards to elementary students from low-income communities in Virginia. We partner with local schools and churches that nominate passionate students to the community outreach program. ​Together, we can provide access to piano education and inspire the next generation of musicians. ​Three-Way Support System

Private Education & Resources
​From the start, we build a three-way support system between the student's parent, current elementary school teacher, and Piano & More's teacher to enhance student success.

Having more than one adult involved in the child's learning journey will encourage them to keep learning and progressing.
Each student is gifted a keyboard and music books to take home and practice. They are assigned to a Piano & More teacher that meets with them at their school for private piano lessons on a weekly basis.

Private education is powerful because lessons are tailored to each individual’s interests and needs. This allows students to learn faster and build confidence in their abilities.

Community

Mentorship
Students are welcomed to our community at Piano & More with FREE entry to any of our musical events. We regularly host recitals, open mics, and music field trips where students can share their musical abilities.

A lot of the magic comes from healthy and strong relationships formed between student and teacher. It’s these relationships that leave a positive and lasting impression on a student for years to come.
